BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Enrollment eligibility
As an international school aligned with the relevant regulations set by the Guangzhou Education Bureau, UISG can only offer enrollment to students holding valid foreign passports or children who are Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan residents. We cannot offer enrollment to children who hold a People’s Republic of China passport.
If you are uncertain whether your child is eligible to apply to UISG, please get in touch with the Admissions Office before you begin the application process.
HOW IT WORKS
Four steps to joining UISG
Our application process is completed online through the OpenApply Admissions Portal, and our Admissions Team follows along and supports you at every step.
PREPARE · GRADE LEVEL PLACEMENT
Which grade will my child join?
Students are placed in a grade level after due consideration of their chronological age, previous school experience, achievement level, and emotional and physical maturity, with consideration given to UISG’s curriculum, standards, and expectations.
Students who have not completed a full academic year of a given grade level by the start of the school year will be enrolled in the same grade level. For mid-year applications from other national school systems whose school calendars differ from ours, students may be required to complete the UISG school year at their current grade level.
UISG recognizes that parents or students may have differing opinions about grade-level placement after a transfer from a different educational system, program of studies, or calendar year. However, UISG reserves the right to make all final determinations regarding grade-level placement.

REVIEW · ADMISSIONS CRITERIA
How applications are reviewed
UISG’s Admission Policy is designed to encourage diversity in our student body and to ensure that students admitted to UISG can benefit from our educational provision and succeed in our structured learning objectives. UISG is an inclusive school and aims to offer appropriate services to support the enrollment of English Language Learners (ELL) and students with mild learning support needs.
UISG is a co-educational, secular school established to serve predominantly expatriate families in China. Admission to UISG is determined by the Head of School based on:
- The potential of the applicant to benefit from the educational services available.
- The capacity of the school to meet the educational needs of the applicant.
- The results of admission assessments, where applicable.
- The availability of places. Students may be admitted at any time during the academic year unless the timing affects the completion of their courses.
Students wishing to enroll directly in the IB Diploma Programme (Grades 11–12) must meet additional language and course requirements as determined by the IB Diploma Coordinator.
The school reserves the right to deny admission or re-enrollment to any applicant if, in its opinion, admission or re-enrollment would not be in the best interest of the applicant or the school. Examples include, but are not limited to:
- Expulsion from a previous school for violent or aggressive behavior, or any behavior considered a Serious Offense in our Parent Student Handbook.
- A student who is not living with his or her immediate family or guardian.
- A student without the documentation required to reside and study in mainland China.
