Utahloy International School Guangzhou celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) 2023 on 8th March with UDB students leading the way to remind the community about the significance of equity in education and all aspects of life. The IWD 2023 theme is #EmbraceEquity, students led an awareness campaign to get the UISG community talking about why equal opportunities aren’t enough, and why it is important to be inclusive. The realization that people start from different places, hence true inclusion and belonging requires equitable action was the focus of the day.
Teachers and students wrote messages to support gender equality, a UN SDG. The awareness campaign helps our community to reflect on the critical understanding of the difference between equity and equality. We also had students selling IWD gifts to raise money for charities that support women’s empowerment. We dressed in purple and posed with an embracing hug for equity in all walks of life.
