Duke of Edinburgh’s Qualifying Bronze Expedition

Founded by Prince Philip in 1956, the award aims to equip participants with essential life skills through a structured framework that includes physical challenges, skill development, community service, and adventurous journeys. The program fosters resilience, teamwork, and personal growth, empowering young people to make a positive impact in their communities while building confidence and leadership abilities.

This weekend, five courageous students from Utahloy International School of Guangzhou completed their Duke of Edinburgh’s qualifying Bronze Expedition, marking a significant milestone as the first group to undertake this adventurous journey from our school in over five years.
上周末，广州誉德莱外籍人员子女学校的五名勇敢学子完成了爱丁堡公爵奖铜级资格探险，标志着该校时隔五年再度有学生团体踏上这项挑战征程。
The expedition took place in the remote Huanghua countryside (Qingyuan), where students Isabella Wu (Y10), Isabella Wells Viasus, Dustin Cha (both Y9), and Samuel and Frank Whiston (both Y7) were required to be completely self-sufficient for two days and one night. In preparation for this challenge, they completed training in navigation, first aid, wilderness cooking, and hiking over the past few weeks.
此次探险在清远黄花镇偏远山区展开，十年级学生Isabella Wu、九年级学生Isabella Wells Viasus与Dustin Cha，以及七年级学生Samuel Whiston和Frank Whiston进行了为期两天一夜的完全自给式野外生存。为迎接挑战，过去数周他们系统完成了定向导航、急救护理、野外炊事和长途徒步等专项训练。
With the spirit of true adventurers, all five members applied their skills, knowledge, and teamwork during their practice journey last week, leading up to their qualifying expedition from June 1st to 2nd, 2025.
怀着真正探险家的精神，全体成员在2025年6月1日至2日的考核探险中，充分运用了此前实践旅程积累的技能知识与团队协作经验。
This experience not only tested their outdoor skills but also fostered resilience and teamwork as they faced a variety of challenges together, including extreme humidity, unexpected rain, muddy fields, and relentless mosquito invasions during their 25-kilometer trek.
这场25公里的艰苦跋涉不仅检验了他们的户外生存能力，更锤炼了团队凝聚力——学生们共同应对了极端潮湿、骤雨突袭、泥泞田埂和蚊虫围攻等多重考验。
As iron sharpens iron, each student demonstrated their unique strengths, perseverance, and mutual respect. This journey reflected a strong spirit of collaboration and support for one another, creating memories that will forever characterize their adventure.
