Arts:
Y7 – Appealing Composition and Illusions and Depth
The exhibition features artwork by Y7 students from two units. The first unit focused on creating illusions and depth in artwork. Students learned to use the techniques of perspective and shading to create a sense of three-dimensionality. The other unit focused on how to make compositions interesting by using design principles like balance, movement, contrast, and others. Learning these topics allows students to develop their artistic abilities and create visually appealing works. These units not only improved students’ technical skills but also encouraged their creativity and understanding of the fundamental concepts of art, building a solid foundation for future projects.
Y10 – Art Exposing 21st Century Issues and Interconnectedness in Art Through Space and Time
The other section of the exhibition features artwork by the students of Y10. The artworks focusing on ‘Art Exposing 21st Century Issues,’ students likely delved into exploring contemporary societal, environmental, or political issues through their artwork. This unit would have challenged students to use art as a medium for commentary and reflection on the world around them, fostering critical thinking and creativity. The last set of artworks exhibited by the students opted for e-portfolios and worked on ‘Interconnectedness in Art Through Space and Time.’ The focus was likely on examining how art transcends boundaries of time and space, connecting different cultures, histories, and perspectives. By investigating interconnectivity themes, students gained a better understanding of how art can bridge barriers and transmit universal messages across different contexts and time periods, broadening their creative awareness and cultural understanding.Y11 Monthly Atrium Lunchtime Concert (CAS Projects, Music)
Wednesday saw the first ‘Monthly Atrium Lunchtime Concert’, a CAS project initiative from four Year 11 students, coincide with the first exhibition week. As an introduction to their project, the four student sponsors performed, presenting a solo vocal performance, a piano duet, and a vocal quartet. We are looking forward to sign-ups for the June lunchtime concert, now the initiative has been successfully launched.
Design:
Y7 Logo Design
From Year 7 Design, we exhibited selected posters which show the process of how students explored ‘Form can Communicate Identity’ from designing a logo, either for a new product or company or improving an existing one.
Y8 IDU (Music + Design) Public Service Announcements:
For their 2nd unit this school year, Y8 Students completed an IDU integrating music and design knowledge and skills. Students did this by creating a “Public Service Announcement” (PSA) advocating for inclusion. For many students it was a chance to practice being caring by identifying peers who are sometimes excluded and creating a video which spreads a message to include them. For many it was also their first time using video editing software to design an impactful visual and sound experience.
The statement of inquiry for this unit is: “Advocating inclusion is the role of a communicator with a caring perspective.”
The goal of this unit is: to integrate our music and design knowledge to advocate inclusion for others in a complex world. To accomplish this goal students had to develop a caring perspective towards others who are not included and take the role of communicator who can use music and design knowledge to create a PSA which advocates inclusion.
All PSAs are currently being screened in the Atrium of the Secondary building.
Please enjoy this compilation of PSAs made by y8 design students.
