On Tuesday 15 June, the first DP Music Recital of the 2024-2025 academic year took place. A boutique affair, a dedicated audience welcomed the two DP Music students to the Admin Hall stage, representing the Class of 2025 (DP2) and Class of 2026 (DP1).
‘Pathetique’

The second, slow movement from Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No.8 in c minor, known as the ‘Pathetique’ sonata, opened the recital, sensitively played to represent late 18th-century Viennese Classical music.

In contrast, the second item on the programme featured Japanese anime music in an arrangement for solo electric violin with an EDM style backing track: Tori no uta – Feather in Dreams by Orito Shinji.’Feather in Dreams’

The final item brought the piano back into the spotlight with a jazzy rendition of George Gershwin’s standard ‘The Man I Love’, composed a hundred years ago in New York City, but still sounding fresh.
Congratulations to our DP musicians. A successful recital from which these performances could potentially be part of the students’ final Presenting Music portfolios ultimately submitted to the IB.
