Shining Bright Together at UIS’s International Festival of Light

IFOL 2025

Sunday December 14, the UISG campus came alive with warmth, color, and community spirit as we celebrated our annual International Festival of Light (IFOL). With crisp winter air and clear blue skies, the weather could not have been more perfect for a day spent outdoors together, and the campus buzzed with excitement from the moment families began to arrive.

For the day, UISG was transformed into a magical forest. Glowing stars hung overhead, colorful ribbons danced in the sunlight, and giant whimsical mushrooms popped up across the grounds, creating a space that felt both imaginative and welcoming. A woodland-themed photo booth quickly became a favorite gathering spot, capturing joyful moments and memories as friends and families posed together among the forest-inspired decorations – thank you both to the Secondary StuCo and UPTA for this joint venture. Throughout the day, the festival truly lived up to its theme, “Shine Bright Together,” as students, families, staff, and friends from across the community came together to celebrate connection, creativity, and shared joy.

IFOL officially began with a beautiful performance by our Secondary Orchestra, setting a reflective and uplifting tone for the afternoon. This was followed by a heartfelt all-Primary performance of Love Shine a Light, a moment that perfectly captured the spirit of the festival. Performances continued throughout the day and showcased the remarkable range of student talent across both UIS campuses, including energetic rock bands, graceful ballet dancers, and a variety of ensemble and solo performances that drew enthusiastic applause from the crowd.

Performance

Beyond the stage, students played a central role in bringing the festival to life. Student-led games and hands-on craft stations invited younger and older visitors alike to create, play, and explore together. These spaces highlighted not only creativity, but also leadership, collaboration, and the confidence our students develop when they share their ideas with the wider community.

Food and activities from more than 70 vendors ensured there was something for everyone to enjoy. Delicious offerings from our parent communities and local restaurants across Guangzhou filled the air with tempting aromas, reflecting the international and local connections that are such an important part of UISG’s identity. Families lingered over meals, friends reconnected, and new conversations sparked throughout the campus.

这一天，UISG化身为一片奇幻森林。发光的星辰悬于头顶，彩带在阳光下翩跹起舞，巨大的妙想蘑菇破土而出，点缀着园地，打造出既充满想象力又热情洋溢的空间。以森林为主题的照片亭迅速成为最受欢迎的打卡点，朋友家人在森林系的布景前合影，定格欢乐瞬间，留存美好记忆——感谢中学部学生会与UPTA的携手共创。整场节日活动完美呼应了“你我共熠（Shine Bright Together）”的主题，学生、家庭、教职员工及社区好友齐聚一堂，共同庆祝彼此的联结、创意与分享的喜悦。

灯光节在中学管弦乐团优美的演奏中正式拉开帷幕，为午后奠定了深情而昂扬的基调。随后，小学部全体学生真挚献唱《Love Shine a Light》，瞬间凝聚了节日的精神内涵。全天持续的表演精彩纷呈，充分展示了UIS两校区学生卓越的才华：活力四射的摇滚乐队、优雅动人的芭蕾舞者，以及各类合奏与独唱表演，赢得了观众热烈的掌声。
