Dear UISG Families,
We have another action-packed week ahead at UISG, with a variety of exciting events and activities taking place.
This weekend, our secondary students travel to Shekou for the annual SISMUN (Shekou International School Model United Nations) conference. This valuable learning experience for our students allows them to develop important skills like public speaking, critical thinking, and diplomacy. We are proud of our SISMUN delegates and look forward to hearing about their experiences.
Next week, our primary students will embark on our annual camp for outdoor educational experiences. These hands-on, immersive learning opportunities are an integral part of our curriculum, helping students build independence, teamwork, and a deeper connection to the natural world.
It’s shaping up to be another busy but enriching week at UISG with secondary parent-teacher conferences, a special “deep dive” session for parents to learn more about our inquiry-based approach (conducted in Chinese), MAP testing, and VEX Robotics and athletic tournaments next Saturday.
We appreciate the support and engagement of our entire community as we navigate this action-packed schedule.

Camps next week!!!
We’re beginning to feel the excitement of camps, with our year 3 – 5 students getting very excited about their activities and overnight stays. Just a reminder to year 3 – 5 parents to double check packing lists and itineraries so you are prepared for next week.
Please note that I will also be away on camps next week, so Jonathan, Assistant Head of Primary and PYP Coordinator (pypcoordinator@uisgz.org) and Jai, EY Coordinator (eycoordinator@uisgz.org) will be taking the lead.

Parent Volunteers
A big THANK YOU to those parents signing up to be volunteers. It is wonderful to have parents joining in with learning and supporting our students and teachers. Some examples of ways parents can volunteer are:
- Reading with children in English
- Being a support with individual or groups of students in the art, PE, music or mother tongue classroom
- Helping with resources
- Supervising students in the Early Years

Parent Workshops
A huge THANK YOU to our Korean Parent Community who turned out to the first PYP workshop this week. We had 16 parents in total who embraced the workshop and got a taste for what it is like being in a classroom at UISG.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last week we issued Secondary reports focused on Learning Behaviours. I hope you had a chance to review this with your child and discuss their progress.
This week, we are gathering different kinds of data from our Year 6 – 10 students – MAP data. MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) are taken by students in Years 6-10 twice a year. These MAP tests are in language usage, reading and maths. The results of the MAP tests give us an additional insight into how each student is currently performing, as well as the growth that they have shown over the years in their MAP results.
As teachers, we use external data (like MAP) to connect and triangulate with our own internal data from formative and summative assessments. When combined with the Learning Behaviours a student demonstrates, these data points help us to start to formulate a clear understanding of each individual student.
On Thursday October 24th, we get to build another piece of the data puzzle in the Parent-Teacher-Student conferences. There is opportunity to hear from all three sides – parents, teachers and students – and the conferences provide the opportunity for students, parents, and teachers to engage in open and honest dialogue and they encourage and empower students to take responsibility for their own learning. Information about signing up for these conferences has already been shared on Managebac, so if you have not yet signed up for slots to meet teachers, I hope you get to do that over the weekend.
Model United Nations
11 students are attending the Shekou International School – Shenzhen MUN conference this weekend. These conferences are a great chance for students to develop their global awareness, their critical thinking skills and their communication skills. A report from the SISMUN will come in a WeChat post next week.
