Friday November 29th
Can you believe that it is the end of November already? This semester has flown by so quickly!
As it’s American Thanksgiving this week, it’s a good time for everyone to reflect on what they are thankful for. This semester, I’m thankful for such a welcoming UISG community. You’ve all made me transition a very smooth one and I’m very grateful for this. What are you thankful for this semester?
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is back!! And the books are in the library!!
For those new to the Battle of the Books, this is a competition for Years 4 and 5 where they read a list of books and then in teams of 6 they compete with other schools to answer questions about all the books. One way of supporting your children is to scan the QR codes and watch the book trailers together. Which of these books are your children interested in reading? Go check them out from the library once they have decided!

Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Arts at UISG
This week has been an important one in the MYP Theatre classes, as each group has had a culminating performance: Year 7 with “Half hour Hamlet”, Year 9 with Shakespeare monologues and Year 10 with The Trojan Women. The opportunity to perform fits with one of our schoolwide aims of ensuring a safe environment for students to thrive.
Speaking of performances, there will be a whole afternoon of performances at the IFOL on Saturday December 7th. It is sure to be a great event, so do get your tickets as soon as you can.
Visual art also “performed” in an ‘Art Battle’ competition at CISG this week, and our students created some good artwork under the time pressure situation:
From one arts ‘battle’ to another: The Battle of the Books, coming up next Semester. This is a competition between local schools where students showcase their reading prowess and teamwork! The books are in the library and details are available from Mr. Luker.
Connections with the Community
Another schoolwide goal is to build connections with the community, and this has also been a highlight of this week. On Monday we took over 100 students to UISZ for our first ever combined Hong Kong and China University fair. This excellent opportunity, organised by the college counsellors on both campuses, gave students the chance to hear panel discussions on important topics and then ask follow-up questions at the university stands. For students in Years 10-12, building their awareness and understanding of college life really helps to build their power to make appropriate decisions. We also had our Secondary Coffee Morning today, with a focus on Language and Literature, led by our Head of Department, Fred Lemesle, and supported by Korean, Chinese and Japanese teachers. It was fascinating to see the inquiry into universal elements of Fairy Tales and hear the different cultural experiences. Thank you to Ms. Fred for organising, the languages teachers for supporting, and to the parents who came and participated so actively.
