Friday September 27th
Happy Holidays, everyone! We made it to the first holiday of the school year, and I’d like to thank you all for the support you have shown both me and our teachers over this time. It has been a wonderful few weeks getting to know all our children and families.
Parent Volunteers
Want to support the students in our school? Eager to see what learning looks like at UISG? Happy to give a few hours a week to different classes? Well, you have come to the right place…
Here at UISG, we encourage parents to be on campus and be part of the learning. We have made the document attached to this message outlining the purpose, role and requirements of regular parent volunteers. If you are interested in this role, have a read through the document and then contact the primary office to start the process.
We are currently looking for some support in our Mother Tongue classes, Early Years and reading with students across the Primary School. If you have any other special talents or suggestions of how you could help on campus, we’d love to hear them!
Behaviour Flowchart (full version attached to this message)
If you’ve read through the Parent/Student Handbook, you may be familiar with the different levels of behaviour issues that we sometimes see from students. We’ve taken these levels and worked on a Behaviour Flowchart to help teachers, students, and parents know the procedures if any of these behaviours are demonstrated. We will share with students after the holiday but wanted you to see our new process. If you have any questions, please contact homeroom teachers or the primary office.

8 Oct – 11 Oct (Week 8A)
Dear Parents and Guardians,
For many of you this may have been a quiet week at home, with all the Year 6-10 students out on Camp. It certainly wasn’t quiet on Camp! For a week, students have been developing campcraft skills, finding out about local culture, learning kayaking skills, improving climbing skills, all with gloriously noisy discussion, laughter and conversation. I was lucky enough to spend two days in Yingde with the Year 6 and Year 7 students, and the most enjoyable part was seeing the connections students were making with their classmates, building strong interpersonal skills, and sharing experiences together. If you have not yet taken a look at the photos from the Camps, please check the links below:

Year 10
It was also a significant week for the Year 11 and 12 students. There were two important field trips – Design / Business / Economics trip to the Volkswagen factory; and a trip to visit Hong Kong Universities. There was dedicated time for Extended Essay work. There were Theory of Knowledge (TOK) one-on-one sessions. There was an extended Internal Assessment (IA) opportunity for the Sciences and other subjects. And there were some regular lessons going on as well!
MYP ePortfolio component of the eAssessment
Year 10 students have been introduced to the ePortfolio choices they have this year and have had consultation time with their Arts / Design / PHE teachers. Students need to make their final choice of ePortfolio subject straight after the holiday – a choice letter will go out on October 8th, to be returned by October 11th.
Parent Sessions
Thank you to the parents who attended the first Coffee Morning on Friday 27th. And a particular thanks to Mr. Toppings and the Year 12 student Pei Ying who led the presentation on the Design department. The next Coffee Morning will be on Friday November 1st.
- Oct 10 – Understanding the MYP – Admin Hall 8:30 – 9:30am
- Nov 1 – Coffee morning with Martin Grist, Head of Secondary – Wolves Cafe 8:30 – 9:45am.
We hope you are able to join us for the ones that are relevant to your child.
