On Thursday afternoon of 20 November, secondary students from Utahloy International School of Guangzhou gathered in the Multi-Function Hall for this year’s 2025 Secondary Talent Show! Students from across grades 6 through 12 auditioned, practiced, rehearsed, and prepared to present their best skills, talents, and unique abilities in front of fellow students, teachers, parents, and principals. Viewers entered the MFH with the stage set and music playing to an atmosphere of excitement to see what students would bring to this year’s talent exhibition. Some students arrived prepared with posters and signs cheering on their favorite friends.
Music is a strong suite of UISG and so it is no surprise many instrumentalists and vocalists performed to the best of their abilities, showcasing weeks, and for some, months of practice. It The Secondary Talent show began with Grade 10 rock band “OVERDRIVER”, a four member rock band keeping punk and indie rock alive. A new band arrived on the scene of three Grade 8 girls newly named, “Three Winged Dragons”. This flute, violin, and piano trio performed a little known song called “Theme of Mitsuha” by the band, RADWIMPS. As the afternoon went one more bands from UISG made it to the stage including, new bands: Grade 10’s “LIVE AND LOUD” and Grade 11’s “METAPHASE”.

Some students were familiar with the MFH stage and participating in the Performing Arts programs and events offered at UISG, but this this year were are proud to have so many new faces with new skills and talents. After completing the band and ensemble section of the show, the event moved onto solo and duet acts. This year, one Grade 7 student performed a solo acoustic guitar piece, playing melody, accompaniment, and a small drum part on their guitar all at the same time!

Music was well covered this year, but that wasn’t the only category prepared. This year we welcome two unique and diverse dance acts. The first from Act 3 of Don Quixote, the Kitri variation, by Ludwig Minkus, from the Sofia National Opera Orchestra. A strong and graceful performance, executed with precision and balance. We hope we can continue to see more pieces like this in the future.

For the grand finale UISG Secondary students welcomed a Grade 10 Visual Art veteran oil painting in a real time countdown of only three minutes. This masterful artist created four individual pieces, but many were confused as to what the final work was supposed to be. It wasn’t until all four canvas’ were combined and flipped upside down did they reveal a single larger portrait of Albert Einstein. The crowded erupted in applause with students and adults alike pleasantly surprised. Special talents like this are what make Utahloy International School of Guangzhou so unique.

It was well noted by Head of Secondary, Mr. Martin Grist, and Head of Visual and Performing Arts, Dr. Anna Baerman, the strong sense of community, artistic expression, and technical understanding, our secondary students hold. Truly, a talent show for the history books, that will go down in UISG history.
