In our Y4 classroom, we recently wrapped up a unit of inquiry focussed on the central idea that “Successful communities are built on understanding and respect.” To celebrate the students’ learning, we hosted an end-of-unit celebration where families were invited into the classroom.
During the celebration, the students proudly shared their graphic stories that they had worked hard to create. They walked their families through their writing process, explaining how their stories connected to the unit’s central idea of understanding and respect within a community.
It was wonderful to see the students’ excitement as they presented their work. They were proud of themselves as they described the development of their stories, from their initial brainstorming to the final published pieces. The graphic format allowed the students to visually express their ideas in creative and engaging ways.
Equally heartwarming was observing the families’ reactions. Parents and guardians were clearly impressed by their children’s learning and the connection to the unit’s central idea. They asked thoughtful questions and offered words of encouragement, fostering a true sense of community within the classroom.
This end-of-unit celebration was a fantastic opportunity for the students to showcase their learning, and for families to engage with the work happening in our classroom. It was a reminder of the power of bringing the school and home communities together to support student success.
As we move forward, we look forward to more chances to celebrate the incredible growth and accomplishments of our Y4 students.
Warm regards,
Y4 Team
