At last, UISG End of Year Arts & Design Exhibition (MYP-DP) has reached its finale of showcase (Jun 6–14, 2023). Since last week, the secondary atrium has been filled with the artworks, design works, and performances from MYP Year 7,8,9, and 10 students. Below is the overview.
Y7 MYP Design. Logo & Poster Design.
During this year’s exhibition year 7 displayed work related to logo and poster design. During the first semester students designed a logo for a company/organization of their choice, the second semester incorporated this logo into poster design. The primary purpose of these units is to help students understand visual communication and how colours affect the way we think consciously and subconsciously. Hopefully, this experience has developed their skills in identifying some of the most important elements in design.
Y8 MYP Music. Group Performances.
Year 8 Music students shared the results of their ‘O Bla di O Bla Band!’ unit, with student groups performing their chosen songs from around the world in live lunchtime concerts throughout the week. Visual Arts, Design and Performing Arts all brought together in the Secondary Atrium!
Y9 MYP Design. Set & Short Film Design.
Year 9 started off the year with set design; having the creative freedom to design anything from a television drama to a computer game environment, there were no limits set in this regard. Students were exposed to technology such as 3D printing and laser cutting that will be a very beneficial part of a skills-tool kit they can call upon throughout their educational experience in MYP design. During the second semester students worked in groups of 3-4 to collaborate, connect their set design in order to create a short film together.
Y10 MYP Visual Arts. Art Inspired by Nature – Art & The World – Collaborative Mural – Infinity Sculpture
The exhibition shows the artworks from this year’s ePortfolio unit (Art & the World), which each student were expected to create artwork which exposes a 21st century issue. Students explored paintings and constructed sculptures as their artistic medium. There are also artworks from their ePortfolio practice (Art Inspired by Nature) back from Semester 1. These were put on hold due to the lockdown but managed to see their completion in April to May this year. Lastly, through collaborative and participatory artworks, not only students had fun in producing the mural and infinity sculpture works but these were part of their service learning.
What an amazing series of exhibition and performance which lasted almost two months. It was a trully celebration of the community’s creative and artistic expression. Thank you for all the support and appreciation given and we can’t wait for what else are coming next school year.
