Calendar new year (as opposed to Lunar New Year) is the most important festival in Japanese culture.
The Primary (Y1-6) MT Japanese team has taken the opportunity to do one of the NY celebrations, Kakizome (書き初め), or the first calligraphy of the year, where they write their New Year’s resolution or goals. For many of the Y1 students, it was their first time to use a calligraphy brush. As they have become increasingly more familiar with kanji characters and hiragana/katakana letters (Japanese alphabets), the Y1s enjoyed inquiring into what to write, and came up with some masterpieces!
