Dear UISG Community,
As we close this week, I am filled with anticipation for the next. The coming days offer a powerful snapshot of what makes UISG so exceptional: a deep commitment to academic growth, a thriving arts culture, competitive athletic spirit, and a truly connected community.
At its heart, our mission is to nurture each student’s potential. The upcoming MAP Testing for our Secondary students is a valuable tool in this journey, providing essential data that helps our dedicated teachers personalize learning and support every child’s academic path.
True education, however, extends far beyond the classroom. Next week, we celebrate this through:
- The Power of Creativity:I am delighted to see us embrace International Dot Day again and witness our DP 2 Art students draw inspiration on their trip to Shenzhen.
- The Pursuit of Excellence:Our HS Volleyball and MS Football teams represent our school with pride and sportsmanship in their away games.
- The Strength of Partnership:The “Understanding the DP” session ensures we walk this journey together with parents, a partnership we will celebrate at the UPTA Welcome Picnic.
Yours in Education,
Dr. Daniel Mullen

Friday September 5th
Dear UNC, EY and Primary Families,
We are in September, and this school year already feels like it’s flying by!
Here are some things I am grateful for this week:
- The eagerness of the students to learn.
- The drive of the teachers for change.
- For all community members in giving feedback so that we can continually improve.
What are you grateful for this week?
Dot Day
Dot Day is NEXT Thursday 11th September. Please see the attached poster. We invite all Primary and EY students to Dress up in Dots on this day.
Please note that due to secondary MAP tests and scheduling, Secondary Dot Day will take place on a different day being Friday 12th September.

Subscriptions
Epic, Raz-kids and ixl are now all up and running for K3 – Grade 5. If your child is having any issues accessing these subscriptions, please reach out to your homeroom teacher.
MAP Testing
MAP Testing is done for this semester, and we can already see some great results across the grade levels.
At a quick glance the RIT score (how MAP is measured) is at or above average for each grade level in Math and Language Usage.
We have some work to do in reading to boost the average scores, but we already knew this was an area of development for us and that is why literacy is one of our goals this year. Parents, you can help us with this by:
- Ensuring your child reads everyday
- Read with your child
- Create a reading culture at home
- Get your library card for the UISG library (it’s never too late!)
Your individual child’s MAP result will be shared with you over the next couple of weeks.
Just a reminder that MAP Growth is an assessment of a moment in time. While children all work very hard on their MAP test, the results may not always be reflective of their learning in the classroom. If you have any questions or concerns about the results, please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher.

September 8 – 12 (Week 5A)
The Model United Nations (MUN) group at UISG held its third annual PACKMUN conference last weekend. This year was the biggest one yet, and featured representatives from both UISG and UISZ. There were a large number of new MUN delegates, from Grades 8 upwards, and they were ably supported and encouraged by the more seasoned MUN students. MUN Conferences are always impressive in the high level of discourse and debate, and also in the fact that students run the event. Two Grade 12 students – Euijin (Owen) Lee and InBeom (Eddy) Song – were the driving force behind this year’s PACKMUN. In conjunction with Dr. Roy and Ms. Nina, they pulled of a very successful event.

Dot Day
The Secondary atrium has been hosting the Dot Day activities this week, with music and art combining to make for extra-enjoyable break times. The Dot Day activities culminate with a dress up day on Friday September 12th. We encourage all students to wear something with dots on that day.

MAP testing
Next week, students in Grades 6-11 will be taking MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) tests in Reading, Language Usage and Mathematics. Although students are not expected to revise for these tests, we do encourage students to achieve their best, so that the data can help us support them most effectively.
Secondary Camps
Camps for Grades 6 – 11 take place September 22 – 26, and parents are reminded that the travel document and other information should have been shared by now. The Camps are one of the highlights of the school year, and the experiences gained from participating in the Camps are incomparable.
Parent power-ups / information sessions
We have a number of parent information sessions coming up in September. Although there is a particular Grade level focus for each of these, all parents are welcome to join to find out more about life in the DP, or MYP eAssessments.
Events Coming Up
- September 8-10 MAP testing
- September 11 – Understanding the DP (G11 focus) – parent session – start at 9:15am
- September 13 – Welcome Picnic
- September 15-19 Spirit Week
