The Chemical Kitchen: Grade 3’s Hands-On Journey into ‘How The World Works’

Our Grade 3 students recently completed an exciting scientific investigation as part of their Unit of Inquiry: “How The World Works,” conducting two hands-on experiments that showcase our commitment to inquiry-based, cross-curricular learning. Students observed how yeast comes alive when mixed with sugar and warm water, followed by investigating how vinegar transforms heated milk into solid paneer cheese, developing a clear understanding of chemical, irreversible changes in materials. Throughout these investigations, students used strong scientific thinking by making predictions and drawing conclusions based on their observations, while also strengthening their math skills through careful measurement of temperature and size changes, and building their English skills by using scientific vocabulary in detailed, labeled diagrams and written explanations. This hands-on approach not only developed critical thinking skills but also created meaningful connections between classroom learning and real-world experiences, ensuring our students build both academic success and genuine curiosity about the scientific principles they see in everyday life.

Energy in Action in Grade 5!

Our Grade 5 scientists have been powering up their ‘How the World Works’ Unit of Inquiry! Through a hands-on provocation, they designed and built their own simple machines in the classroom. The real excitement came when we took our prototypes outside to test them in the open air—launching, lifting, and rolling with real-world forces! It was incredible to see their designs in action, troubleshooting in real-time, and feeling the energy transformations firsthand. A perfect example of learning that extends beyond four walls!

From Campus to Stage: UISG Bands Rock the ISMAG Festival

ISMAG Rock Fest was a vibrant rock music festival featuring student bands from international schools across Guangzhou, hosted at The Goat in Panyu. Utahloy International School Guangzhou showcased a dynamic lineup of bands ranging from pop and punk rock to classic rock and grunge, each demonstrating impressive musicianship and stage confidence. The performances were so polished that many passersby assumed the concert featured professional musicians. UISG students also stood out for their exceptional energy and enthusiasm as audience members. The festival celebrated student bravery, creativity, and the joy of live music.
Charting Your Path: Inside UISG’s DP Course Selections

Choosing the right subjects in the Diploma Programme is never an easy feat. It can take weeks or months for students and families to come to an informed decision. To help with that process, we brought in the whole team of teachers this year for the biggest information session ever at UISG! The DP Coordinator, Kyle Gray, and the University Counselor, Yein Oh spoke to students and parents about the requirements for DP, scheduling combinations, and university guidance – all of which play an important role in making sure each student has the bespoke combination of classes that leads to their success. Afterwards, students and parents met their teachers in small groups to learn about all of the options we have available. We are lucky at UISG to have the widest available array of subjects in our DP network – with more choices than any other international school in Guangzhou! For the next three weeks, Mr. Gray and Mrs. Oh will have private meetings with each family to decide which courses are the best fit. We hope the Class of 2028 feels informed and ready for this big leap into the DP!

UISG Honored to Host the 2026
