For their first design unit, Y9 students will be re-designing a space in UISG for people to develop their IB learner profile traits.
Students start by exploring tools designers use for innovating; finding ways in which designers can make adaptations to existing designs to improve them for the user.
At the beginning of the unit, students were challenged to practice innovative thinking and visual communication skills by sketching ideas for adaptations to the stools they use in the design classroom. Students re-designed stools using the SCAMPER and ACCESS FM models.
Students explained reasons for changes made to the existing design and focused on developing innovative ideas. Following this exercise students are ready to explore how they can develop innovative design adaptations to spaces in our school to develop a stronger IB community.
Students will build scale models of their ideas in the end to communicate a clear vision for adapting existing spaces in our school to build a better community. All student work will be shared via below PADLET QR code where we can see their process moving through the design cycle.
