UISG celebrated Book Week April 17 – 21! Wolves love to read, and Book Week gave us the chance to share our love of books and reading throughout the entire school community. With many book-related activities, we got the chance to share our favourite books, dress up as our favourite book characters, and spend more time reading!
Book Week started with a pre-Spring Break Reading Challenge – Reading on Holiday! Thank you to all the families who sent us your photos reading on airplanes, trains, in hotel rooms and on the beach! We posted the photos for all to enjoy.
The week officially kicked off with Mystery Reader Monday. Each homeroom, from the K Class to Year 12, was visited by a surprise Mystery Reader in their class.
On Tuesday, we saw students and teachers dressed up as their favorite book characters in the Book Character Parade! Each class showed off their class banner and their book costumes, and we had special photos at the end for all of the Harry Potters, Where’s Waldo/Wally, princesses, superheroes and animals!
Throughout the week, we had D. E. A. R. time – Drop Everything and Read! Giving dedicated time for reading helps us strengthen our reading habit.
On Thursday, Primary students partnered with another Primary class for Reading Buddies! Students enjoyed reading to others and this helps build our community of readers. In Secondary School, all students and teachers joined together in the MFH for the Secondary Read-In. We got comfortable on the mats and had a relaxing time reading together.
We ended the week with Read My Shirt Day and had fun reading the words on our shirts. Reading is everywhere! From your Book Week team:Kelly Phillips, Head LibrarianWoori Choi, LibrarianDilek Barjolin, Primary English Language Coordinator
