Thursday afternoon saw the Secondary edition of the Talent Show return to the MFH stage, following on from a successful Primary Talent Show last month. Seeing this UISG tradition back live on stage in the first semester is a joy, after all the disruptions of last academic year.
In Secondary, every two weeks Thursday afternoon is given over to ‘IB Hour’. The Secondary Talent Show, although a special event, did fit within the hour and represented the IB learner profile attributes of being COURAGEOUS (risk taking), as students took to the stage in front of their friends and peers, one of the greatest challenges of any performer; being BALANCED, as the performers shared their talents and enhanced not only their own well-being but the well-being of their audience, who showed their enthusiastic support throughout the show; and as COMMUNICATORS, where we witnessed effective musical collaboration, from duets, trios and band groups.
The Secondary Talent show MCs, Lucas and Nico, stoked the UISG spirit throughout the show, guiding the audience through the 10 items, and reminding everyone that voting was open to register their Top 3 Audience Favourites – votes are still rolling in over the weekend; every performer was someone’s favourite!
Year 7 was represented on stage in urban dance, solo voice and piano, with Wakana, YeEun and Aeslie, doing the Class of 2029 proud. At the other end of Secondary, Year 12 was represented by DP2 singers, Lisa and Alissa, in their final Talent Show appearance, before graduation next semester.
The Class of 2025, Year 11, are showing how to deal with the rigours of DP – by getting on stage! DJ Carlos, a fixture of the UPTA Welcome Picnic and IFOL, started the show with another of his remixes. Caleb brought more of his original rap tunes to the UISG community. Elaine and Cindy combined their stunning voices in duet. The small ‘explosion’ of rock bands in Year 11 was represented by two bands in the show: ECLIPSE in their debut performance, and UISG Secondary stalwarts THE HEYDAYS. To finish the show, NJC UNIVERSE K thrilled the crowd, promising to see everyone soon… could this mean an IFOL appearance on December 9?
Now that the Talent Shows are back live we hope to see more performers join next year, representing all year levels. Start planning, start practicing and let’s hit the lights !
